Working On a Project at The Cat Mansion
Project Overview & Getting Started
Here’s an overview of how most projects go. To get started, please fill out the form on this page.
Discovery
Every project starts with me learning about your project, your goals, and your specific needs. You’ll send me your audio files, and once I understand your project requirements and we’ve agreed to a timeline, you’ll receive a contract and quote to e-sign via LegalZoom. Once you’ve signed the contract, you’ll receive a PayPal invoice for a 50% deposit. Once you’ve paid, I’ll begin work.
Rough Cut
After I’ve completed the first draft, I’ll upload it to Highnote in a private workspace to begin getting your feedback. The first draft of any work is meant to get us into the ballpark so that we have something tangible to discuss. Don’t expect this file to be meticulous or sound at all final.
Refinement
After the first round of feedback, I’ll make substantial updates to the project based on your notes. Once completed, it’ll be loaded back into Highnote for another round of feedback. In this round, we’ll finalize any major changes. Optionally, this round can be conducted live, either in-person or online using ListenTo and Google Hangouts.
Polishing
In this final round of feedback, we’ll smooth off all the rough edges and make sure the project meets your needs and specifications. One this round is complete, I’ll send a PayPal invoice for the remaining 50% of the project fees. Once your invoice is paid in full, your audio will be released. Optionally, this round can be conducted live, either in-person or online using ListenTo and Google Hangouts.
Delivery
Typically, I deliver files via Highnote’s download system, but I can share them in whatever way you prefer if that does not work for you.
Platform
I use Highnote.fm for time-coded, asynchronous feedback on work. It’s free to you, but you’ll need to sign up for an account. It’s a simple system, similar to Soundcloud, but private and with more features. The system works on computers, tablets, and phones very well (and streams in full, uncompressed resolution). Audio files are not shared for download prior to the completion of your project. Want to listen in and collaborate with me while I’m working on your music, but don’t live nearby? Not a problem. I use ListenTo by Audiometers for real-time, studio quality, private streaming, so you can listen in on a session in real-time while I work.

Pricing
Pricing listed provided on this site is a reference only and is not a quote for your project. Please use the contact form to get in touch for a quote.
Terms
All work requires a 50% deposit to start and files will not be delivered in downloadable format until the full balance is paid. No spec work, test mixes/masters, etc. provided. By working with me, you agree to credit me in all places/formats where the work is made available (e.g., CD liner notes, Bandcamp, etc.) for all work performed. All attributions of credit must follow this format: [Mixed & Mastered] by Jeff Burchett at The Cat Mansion in Clifton, VA, with the part in brackets to be adjusted to fit the work performed. Unless agreed to prior to start of work, all work is performed as “work for hire” and delivered with a full buyout. Quotes delivered for projects assume two rounds of revision. Additional rounds of revision will incur additional cost.
Work is typically performed at 96 kHz, 24-bit, and delivered as 48 kHz, 24-bit stereo .wav files unless another format is agreed to prior to commencement of work. Please note: 5.1, 7.1, and Atmos mixes are not available.
